Blooming Into Spring:
Yoga, Cultivation, and the Beauty of New Growth
As the days grow longer and the air softens, spring reminds us that renewal is always possible. This year, spring has sprung pretty quickly! Just as the earth begins to bloom again, our bodies and minds naturally want to move, open, and expand. This is a beautiful time to shake off winter’s heaviness and reconnect with energy, curiosity, and growth.

In our yoga practice, spring invites us to create space—in the body, the breath, and the mind. Twists, heart-openers, and flowing sequences help us clear out stagnation and welcome fresh energy, much like opening the windows after a long winter.
No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.— Hal Borland

Root to Rise: A Yoga, Meditation & Succulent Planting Workshop
In nature, growth begins below the surface. Long before a plant
blooms, it strengthens its roots — quietly creating the stability
and nourishment needed for future growth.
This two-hour workshop is designed to help you do the same.
We’ll start with a gentle open-eyed meditation, cultivating
presence and awareness. From there, you’ll create your own
small succulent planter, a hands-on reminder of the patience
and care that help roots develop and thrive.

Afterward, we’ll move through a slow flow and grounding yoga
practice, followed by a long, restful savasana to fully absorb the
benefits of the practice.

Together, these experiences offer space to pause, reconnect, and strengthen your own inner roots — supporting resilience, balance, and growth in everyday life.

Perfect for anyone seeking a moment to slow down, reconnect, and cultivate deeper roots.

Spring Landscape Tips for Bay Area Gardeners: Cultivating Your Outdoor Sanctuary
Spring is also the perfect moment to bring that same sense of renewal into the garden. Here are a few simple ways to support your landscape this season:
1. Check irrigation
Turn on all irrigation and ensure that nothing is broken. Repair broken drip lines or sprinklers as needed. When turning on your irrigation timer, adjust the schedule. In spring, as always, we start out watering only as much as necessary. Start out with one day per week and adjust as the days grow longer and warmer.
2. Prune With Purpose
Hard pruning should be done by now. If you haven't done it, it's not too late. Some perennials benefit from a pretty good haircut- think Salvias, catmint, Santa Barbara Daisies. Pruning now should be selective. Prune out any dead, dying or diseased branches/limbs. Prune to keep plants from getting in the way of paths, furniture, etc. Lawns should be allowed to get longer. This helps keep moisture in, reducing the need for watering.

3. Start warm-season vegetables
March and April are great times to plant tomatoes, peppers, squash, and cucumbers in the Bay Area. Wait until nights begin to warm up. If you live at higher elevations or cooler parts of the area, waiting until Mother's Day can be beneficial. This spring has started a bit early so planting now if ok if the forecast has warm night temperatures (think 55 degrees+).
4. Refresh your soil & mulch
Add compost or organic matter to garden beds to replenish nutrients after winter rains. Healthy soil means stronger plants all season. Mulching garden beds with a thick layer (2-3”) of straw can help retain soil moisture and keep weeds away.
5. Plant pollinator-friendly flowers
Lavender, California poppies, and salvia attract bees and butterflies while adding beautiful color to your garden.

A Simple Spring Reflection

As you step onto your mat this season, ask yourself:
What in my life is ready to grow?
What am I ready to release?

Just like the garden, growth happens with patience, care, and a little sunlight.
I hope this season brings you fresh energy, open breath, and moments of quiet joy both on and off the mat.
See you in class. 🌸
